PRIMARY BONE GRAFTING IN FACIAL BONE INJURY

Abstract
For the optimal management of traumatic facial bone injury, it must necessary that the early surgical exploration, meticulous interfragmentary wiring, soft tissue repair and primary bone grafting were made utilizing the principles of craniofacial technique.

Early primary bone grafting of the midface is able to reduce anatomical position of facial bone and provide the proper structural framework, and it will prevents soft tissue contracture, severe postoperative traumatic deformity and disability that may be extremely difficult or impossible to correct secondarily. Therefore, primary bone grafting may be the best restoration of facial function & contour.

This paper not only presents the role of primary bone grafting, advantage, indication, contraindication, clinical use and couse of failure, but also add to the successful primary bone grafting and also presents the cause & mechanism of immediate contamination in gunshot wound and the reason of necessity of 2ndary correction for the gunshot patient.

The results were satisfactory in all patient with the exception of 2 gunshot patient in 17 patients.
